Firm inaugurates Maths application
An organisation, The Mathematics Laboratory Limited, has inaugurated an online platform for mathematics practice and testing for secondary school pupils in Lagos.
According to the Chairman, Mathematics Laboratory Limited, Mr. Andy Akhigbe, the application will help pupils overcome the challenges they encounter in mathematics, numeracy and numbers.
“Pupils can go online and learn every aspect of mathematics. They can take the test under strict examination conditions and monitor their progress through continuous assessment. In addition, pupils can schedule themselves to sit for a Mathematics Olympiad and determine where they stand in relation to other pupils at the local government, state or national level,’’ he said.
Akhigbe, while recounting his experience in creating the device, noted that it took him two years to come out with the app.
He added that six other firms, including a bank and an insurance group, were supporting the venture.
One of the partners, Mrs. Scholastica Adeniji-Fashola, said the initiative would help to reduce the failure rate in Mathematics.
“It is an application that can be downloaded on phone, iPad and laptops. It covers different topics from JSS1 to SS3. Subscribers pay a token to the bank and have access to it for one academic session. Internet connection comes handy when one is submitting a test or wants to contact the organisers online.
Another partner from an Information Technology firm, Dragnet, Mr. Horace Obase, said many Nigerians would find the application useful.
According to him, Dragnet decided to support the project because job seekers who do aptitude test with the organisation have challenges with the subject.
